Part of a dog’s body. Only the front part of the body and parts of the forelegs survive. The bended legs and the muscular body with the defined ribs give the impression that the animal is ready to pounce.

The marble head Ακρ. 525 has also been attributed to this dog whereas the similarities it presents with the hunting dog Ακρ. 143 lead to the hypothesis that the two animals framed the entrance of the Sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia on the Acropolis.

It is the work of art of a great Athenian artist, perhaps the same one who created the “Rampin rider” (Ακρ. 590), the “Peplos Kore”( Ακρ. 679) and other sculptures of the Acropolis.
